What's the best way for me to get my first credit card?
My parents credit is ruined so having my name on their cards would only hurt my credit. I do have a checking account at my bank, haven't bounced anything, etc. What should I do to get my first credit card?
Whatever you do, please do not sit there and apply for credit card after credit card. Each time you apply for credit, a register is made on your credit file. People can see how many credit facilities you have applied for. If you have applied for 5 credit cards in the last week, they may think you could be a high risk because you might now have 5 credit cards (if you were approved for all of them). Depending on your credit worthiiness (good or bed etc) and your age, a simple google search would bring up the best places to apply. Ie google search 'student credit card' or 'bad credit card'.

Just apply on line for various credit cards; believe me if your credit is good your mail box will be overflowing with offers. Chow

There are banks dedicated to young people (teenagers) who will open a limited credit card if it is backed with a savings account. And that is all the credit you should be using – the cards have a limit of $300 or $500. They are online banks.

Try applying with Chase or Citibank. They have cards especially for young students and first timers and they do take into account that you have no credit history and approval rate is pretty high. Good luck.

apply for a debit card, thats always an indication on how good your credit score is, if you are offered a debit card then you will mostly always be offered a credit card, if you dont get offered debit card facilities, then use a basic bank account, credit it with wages or cheques etc, and have a couple of direct debits coming out and use the account with no charges which builds up your credit score

just apply to some.
"Egg card" is usually easier to get for people like you, they are not to bother on your credit check or income.

Either apply for a student credit card or a prepaid debit card. One you get approved for your own credit card, you can build credit just by paying the bills on time. Here is a good site for student credit cards: http://www.collegestudentcreditcards.net
