What's the best rewards credit card introductory offer?

I'm planning a fairly large purchase. I want to open a credit card account to pay for it, but then pay off the balance immediately. I'm trying to maximize the rewards (travel, points, cash back) I get. Also, as a follow-up, if I cancel the account, do I still keep whatever reward points I accrued?

    I like my Chase Rewards.

1% credit back on purchases. About 5-6% off gasoline purchases.

This is unlike my AMEX Blue rewards where I thought I was accruing airline mileage and after a year they forced me to use the points on magazine subscriptions instead.

Go to bankrate.com and compare rewards cards there.

That would be Discover and American express but there are a few good ones out there depending on the kind of rewards you are looking for, check out http://www.fastcreditcardapprovals.com under reward cards.

The answer depends on the categories in which your purchases fall. For example, there are cards that pay as much as 5% rewards at office supply stores (e.g. if purchasing computer, etc.).

You can plug your expected purchase (by categories) into this rewards calculator to see what card will pay you the most in rewards for your purchase:
