Are Banner Bank Platinum Rewards Visa a good credit card?

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

I'm considering applying for a Banner Bank Platinum Rewards Credit Card, since I bank with them. Is this a good choice, because currently I have Capital One and am having trouble with them. I just want a card that can help me build strong solid credit history. Capital One charges me 21% interest rates, and Banner Bank can offer you a 9.99% to people with good credit. Do any of you have one of these cards, what are the advantages or disadvantes of owning one? Just give me overview of this card if you could please. Also do any of you know if they charge a fee for usage, like for example Capital One charges $10.00 everymonth-$120 yearly. Does Banner Bank do this kind of things? Oh and no smart remarks please. Like no credit card is good kind of thing, work with me here.

Thanks in advance.

I don't have experience with Banner Bank but I would recommend you look into credit cards from Chase. I have one of their cards and they have low rates and I don't pay any monthly or annual fees.

credit card rewards point?

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

I just applied for a credit card that gives you rewards point, don't really need a credit card but I got it cuz I'm 25 and want to build credit as I'm thinking of buying a house soon. My question is will they give you points for just buying gas, beer, and pizza? Cuz I was just thinking of telling my friends that I'll buy beer with my credit card take their money and pay it off at the end of the month to build credit faster. Will my credit score go up with just buying beer and gas and will I still get my rewards point? It is a basic Citi Bank Rewards Card.
I was thinking maxing out the credit card and then paying it off at the end of each month with all the money I save.

My job involves creating credit cards for companies like United Airlines, so I know about this.

Your credit score is a quick way for creditors to judge how you have done with loans (which is what credit cards are). So if you have a credit card for a long time and have always paid what you promised to pay, on time, then it will help your credit score. But if you buy beer with your card, collect money from your friends, but don't pay your card on time because you, like most 25 year olds, spent all your money, and the money you collected from your friends on something else (let's say a new PS3), then your credit score will go down because you were late. As for the rewards points, it really depends on which card you have. Call your credt card company and ask them what they offer.

Can i set up a way to earn rewards on a credit card by paying all my bills and expenses with it?

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Ok, i own a house and do have good credit. I have never been late on a payment. I understand all the risks involved in using credit cards. My goal is to set up automatic payments from all my monthly bills (phone, internet, gas, electric, MORTGAGE, HOA, car, etc.) as well as use my credit card to pay for EVERYTHING. My goal is not to run up the balance or use it irresonsibly (sp). I just want to use my card like cash and pay it off each month. Hopefully, this will help me build better credit and EARN REWARDS (cashback, travel, miles, etc.). I want to consolidate all my bills and expenses into one payment on my credit card, and pay it off each month. Do credit card companies allow this? Is there anything i'm overlooking that won't allow me to do this? thank you

I personally use your scenerio in my current lifestyle. I consolidate everything to one credit card on an automatic payment schedule and pay the balances down each and every month.

The key is paying down the charges in the 30 day grace period so you dont incur any interest charges and your rewards come free of charge.

You must consider the amount of the monthly charges and may have to add an additional card because you want to make sure that all your monthly charges remain under 30% of the credit limit. Otherwise, your charges to the one card will throw off your debt ratio and lower your FICO score.

In my situation I have a 25K card which I use for my monthly bills and emergency fund. It also has rewards which I let accumulate until christmas time.

Yes, the credit cards allow this afterall, they are not loosing money. The credit card companies make a majority of their money off the retailers themselve as they pay a fee on each transaction. Credit card companies make anywhere from 1.5-4% on each transaction depending on the company each service. They don't mind at all if you pay everything with plastic.

Is it Easier to get a basic credit card versus a rewards card?

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

I have a chapter 7 discharged 7 years ago. I don't want to be filling out offers for credit cards that are hopeless, I also think our credit is better than rock bottom as we have a car pmt thru the credit union and have refinanced our home twice in the past 7 years. We have not been late on a house payment in at the very least 10 years. And never on our car payment.

If I get a $150.00 check from my Credit Card's Rewards Program, do I have to declare it on my taxes?

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

I have an Amazon Chase Credit Card. Also, if I am suposed to declare the $150.00 on my taxes, is there any way the government will find out if I don't declare it? Will Amazon or Chase report the $150.00 to the Government?

No, because this is just a return of your own capital. In other words this is a reduction of interest you paid during the year. If this amount exceeds the amount you paid your credit card (highly unlikely) then yes any amount greater is reportable income. The only way the IRS would know is if Chase sent you a 1099 which would mean they send the IRS a similar statement. Good question but I wouldn't worry this is considered a rebate. The IRS has much bigger fish to fry so they also are not concerned about this transaction.

u s bank called me to apply for a visa college rewards credit card?

Friday, December 26th, 2008

Do you guys know if that is legit or not? I gave them all my information and what not. Has this happened to anybody?

I can't tell you if it was legit or not because it could be anyone calling you. Just keep in mind that you shouldn't give any information on the phone unless you know for sure it is your bank or someone trustworthy. If you want a college student card, you should look at your options before applying for one that came your way. See student section in the site below and look through all the ones you can get. It's better to apply online and receive a decision instantly.
