Britain admits EU treaty in limbo
Press Assoc. – Thursday, June 19 06:48 pmConfusion over the fate of the controversial Lisbon Treaty will drag on until at least next year, UK officials admitted.

EU leaders gathering for a crunch summit in Brussels agreed to give Ireland "time and space" to decide how to react after last week's shock referendum "No" vote.

But beleaguered Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen will only be asked to present a detailed report on the situation when they meet next in October.

British Government officials insisted no firm deadlines were being mooted for resolving the issue – effectively leaving the treaty in limbo.

Gordon Brown arrived for the EU Council on Thursday afternoon to plaudits for having steered the Treaty through the UK Parliament – a rare event for a country often seen as a brake on agreements.

The most effusive praise came from French President Nicolas Sarkozy..

Nothing is secure anymore..I have this argument with my husband all the time. You can take all your cash out from the ATM on payday, but then what stops some opportunistic a hole from stealing your wallet. Just as you can do internet banking and have somebody hack in and grab your money. At least with hackers you can usually pinpoint the exact time of loss, and therefor can put it directly back on the bank's "secure" zone and get your money back. (Have done this, believe me if you pursue it, they will give you your money!)

If I get cashback on my credit card along with a purchase at a supermarket, do the c.card company charge me?

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

No. Indeed the bank will take care of that.
If you purchase item X using Y banks credit card, the cash-back amount will be paid to the bank Y to company X.
Since it is an transaction in Bank Y. they get profited from that.

How can I pay my rent and get cash back?

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

You know how some credit cards have cashback bonuses for purchases? I want to find a way to do that for my rent… But writing cash advance checks don't count towards this, and my landlord doesn't accept credit cards. Does anybody know of a checking account program or billpay system that would give cashback rewards on paying my rent?

I don't think such a program currently exists. Sorry!

Cashback from visa credit card?

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Is it possible to do a cash back transaction in a store from a visa credit card?

it is possible, but I don't know of any place that would do that for you. Merchants generally have to pay around two percent on every Visa transaction, so they are not likely to give you any cash back. It also puts them at risk of losing the money if you dispute the transaction.

You can do it using a debit card.

If you have a PIN and a cash advance limit, you could get funds at an ATM or with a teller at most banks.

Chase Freedom just sent me an offer with $100 cashback on first purchase?

Monday, December 29th, 2008

That is hard to pass up. Has anybody done this and is there a catch? The card I use now gives me 1.4% back on all purchases with no caps, but I pay it off every month.

Look for APR and yearly fees. Do you get free APR for certain amount of time? A good APR would be somewhere around 14%. If there's a yearly fee, pass on it.

Best credit card for perks? (cashback, etc)?

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

My husband and I are responsible adults, have excellent credit and always pay our credit cards off in full every month, so we aren't looking for a lecture on how credit cards are bad…they aren't -unless you are irresponsible with them.

That said, what is the best credit card out there that offers incentives such as cash back? We aren't necessarily looking for frequent flyer miles because we don't fly very often, rather, we're looking for a card that will give us points for everyday purchases (groceries, mortgage, gas, car payments) that will give us cash back.

What is the best card for this? Thanks!

The Costco American Express card pays back 2 percent and does not have an annual fee. In addition, Costco also gives a rebate to Executive customers. We find it very beneficial.

I agree that credit cards are a great convenience if one uses them responsibly. We never pay any interest, and our cards are paid automatically from our bank account, so we don't even have to write a check or buy postage.

There may be other cash back cards. We had a card that paid "up to 2 percent" but it really only amounted to 1.4% on the first $10,000 of spending. We used that card until we charged $10,000 then switched to another. But now they only reward you with magazine subscriptions for which you have to pay. We use Master Card only if the store does nto accept AmEx.

I now have a Citi Dividend Pltinum Master Card that pays cash back, but they cut it down to a $300 limit per year.

What is the difference between the Chase Freedom Visa Card and the Chase PerfectCard in terms of cashback?

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

how do you get the money back? does it have hidden fees? which one is better in general?

I don't know which one is better, but I do know that credit cards in general rip you off when it comes to cash back fees and interest rates.

I would go to their website or give them a call. As I understand it they usually credit you on the statement.

citi driver's edge options gives 6% on gas, grocery, drug store for first year — after first year it is 3%. The cash can be only redeemed for auto repair/services or buying new car. It also has 1 cent per mile you drive – not a bad deal in this age of high food/gas prices

second one is chase freedom — gives 3%casback in top 3 categories. If you are patient to wait till you accumulate $200–it gives additonal $50 as bonus — equivalent to 3.7%cashback
