How can I pay my rent and get cash back?

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

You know how some credit cards have cashback bonuses for purchases? I want to find a way to do that for my rent… But writing cash advance checks don't count towards this, and my landlord doesn't accept credit cards. Does anybody know of a checking account program or billpay system that would give cashback rewards on paying my rent?

I don't think such a program currently exists. Sorry!

Where should I apply for my first Credit card?

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

I'm 19 and I've been using my debit card for about a year now. I applied to get a credit card from my bank (Washington Mutual) but they didn't approve it. Where else should I apply for my first credit card. Everytime I apply for other cards like macy's and Kohl's they don't approve it either. What can I do? Thanx in advance

Can i set up a way to earn rewards on a credit card by paying all my bills and expenses with it?

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Ok, i own a house and do have good credit. I have never been late on a payment. I understand all the risks involved in using credit cards. My goal is to set up automatic payments from all my monthly bills (phone, internet, gas, electric, MORTGAGE, HOA, car, etc.) as well as use my credit card to pay for EVERYTHING. My goal is not to run up the balance or use it irresonsibly (sp). I just want to use my card like cash and pay it off each month. Hopefully, this will help me build better credit and EARN REWARDS (cashback, travel, miles, etc.). I want to consolidate all my bills and expenses into one payment on my credit card, and pay it off each month. Do credit card companies allow this? Is there anything i'm overlooking that won't allow me to do this? thank you

I personally use your scenerio in my current lifestyle. I consolidate everything to one credit card on an automatic payment schedule and pay the balances down each and every month.

The key is paying down the charges in the 30 day grace period so you dont incur any interest charges and your rewards come free of charge.

You must consider the amount of the monthly charges and may have to add an additional card because you want to make sure that all your monthly charges remain under 30% of the credit limit. Otherwise, your charges to the one card will throw off your debt ratio and lower your FICO score.

In my situation I have a 25K card which I use for my monthly bills and emergency fund. It also has rewards which I let accumulate until christmas time.

Yes, the credit cards allow this afterall, they are not loosing money. The credit card companies make a majority of their money off the retailers themselve as they pay a fee on each transaction. Credit card companies make anywhere from 1.5-4% on each transaction depending on the company each service. They don't mind at all if you pay everything with plastic.

Cashback from visa credit card?

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Is it possible to do a cash back transaction in a store from a visa credit card?

it is possible, but I don't know of any place that would do that for you. Merchants generally have to pay around two percent on every Visa transaction, so they are not likely to give you any cash back. It also puts them at risk of losing the money if you dispute the transaction.

You can do it using a debit card.

If you have a PIN and a cash advance limit, you could get funds at an ATM or with a teller at most banks.

What is the first step when someone uses your credit card fraudulently? should I file a police report?

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Someone fraudulently made a charge against my credit card. The bank said nothing can be done until it posts to my account one month from now. The merchant said I should file a police report and the merchant will provide police with the details of the transaction.

You are right. A police report is the first step. Make sure you tell the credit card company, unless the bank already did it.

Is it Easier to get a basic credit card versus a rewards card?

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

I have a chapter 7 discharged 7 years ago. I don't want to be filling out offers for credit cards that are hopeless, I also think our credit is better than rock bottom as we have a car pmt thru the credit union and have refinanced our home twice in the past 7 years. We have not been late on a house payment in at the very least 10 years. And never on our car payment.

If you're looking for a card with cash back benefits, the Discover Platinum Card may be a perfect fit. This card offers a 5% rebate for items purchased at participating locations, including restaurants, gas stations and clothing stores. You can also earn up to 1% cash back on general purchases.

Besides the cash back rewards, the Discover Platinum Card offers a 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers for the first year. If you have a sizable balance on your current card, transferring it to the Discover Platinum Card could be a smart move. You'll be able to pay off the balance over a few months and stay interest free. You'll also get to choose from over 150 card designs and will not have to pay an annual fee. Chase Freedom just sent me an offer with $100 cashback on first purchase?

Monday, December 29th, 2008

That is hard to pass up. Has anybody done this and is there a catch? The card I use now gives me 1.4% back on all purchases with no caps, but I pay it off every month.

Look for APR and yearly fees. Do you get free APR for certain amount of time? A good APR would be somewhere around 14%. If there's a yearly fee, pass on it.

Whats the best way to pay off my first credit card bills?

Monday, December 29th, 2008

I just got my first credit card and I want to establish good credit in a fairly short amount of time. I don't really want to dig myself into a hole but will paying my credit bill in full every month give me a good credit score? Is there a certain way I can pay it the first few months to help build it to its full potential?

I have 800+ rating.
I have never carried a balance on any credit card. and never paid a penny interest.
It is simply and old lady's myth that carrying balances increases your rating – just a myth.

Carrying balances can reduce your credit worthiness. Buy stuff you need like food or gas, and pay it in full.

Best credit card for perks? (cashback, etc)?

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

My husband and I are responsible adults, have excellent credit and always pay our credit cards off in full every month, so we aren't looking for a lecture on how credit cards are bad…they aren't -unless you are irresponsible with them.

That said, what is the best credit card out there that offers incentives such as cash back? We aren't necessarily looking for frequent flyer miles because we don't fly very often, rather, we're looking for a card that will give us points for everyday purchases (groceries, mortgage, gas, car payments) that will give us cash back.

What is the best card for this? Thanks!

The Costco American Express card pays back 2 percent and does not have an annual fee. In addition, Costco also gives a rebate to Executive customers. We find it very beneficial.

I agree that credit cards are a great convenience if one uses them responsibly. We never pay any interest, and our cards are paid automatically from our bank account, so we don't even have to write a check or buy postage.

There may be other cash back cards. We had a card that paid "up to 2 percent" but it really only amounted to 1.4% on the first $10,000 of spending. We used that card until we charged $10,000 then switched to another. But now they only reward you with magazine subscriptions for which you have to pay. We use Master Card only if the store does nto accept AmEx.

I now have a Citi Dividend Pltinum Master Card that pays cash back, but they cut it down to a $300 limit per year.
